Things to do Tuesdays; Solo in the City with Tiff in the Morning

Hi I’m Tiff of Tiff in the Morning on Kiss 1071 (heard weekdays 6-10a on iHeartRadio)

I do a lot of things alone…As someone who lived solo in city of Cincy for 4 years I’ve got this down to a science. Join me for tips on how to enjoy experiences alone during various activities…

Tonight I went to a comedy show/dinner at OTR eatery at the DT Kroger. Its centrally located in the city and the atmosphere lends itself to causal conversation, good food, and… grocery shopping if needed.

*Bonus Tiff tip: grocery shopping is a great conversation starter.

For this type of setting my number one recommendation is to sit and chat with the bartender, it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a great start. Bartender who are not busy are often open to chatting, sharing recommendations, and will often bridge the gap to other people solo in the bar.

Easy questions to start:

  • “What do you recommend on tap?”
  • “What’s a typical night here look like?”
  • “ What else happens at this place, that I might like?”

My second recommendation is; If you find common ground with someone, exchange Instagram handles. This eliminated having to exchanges numbers with someone who don’t really care about (yet.)

*Bonus Tiff tip: FOLLOW UP! That’s my secret sauce, if I meet you and we hit it off, I will reach out and
DM within a day or two. I never wait for someone to come to me, its nothing personal, but people get
caught in their busy schedules.

  1. My final recommendation is… just do it. You usually wont regret the experience, but it’s natural for your mind to talk you out of it… hell! Our body literally protects us from things that are uncomfortable.

*bonus Tiff tip: I usually tell myself “Stay for 30 mins Tiff, then you can decide.”

Everything Cincy has loads of things to get you started … she does all the research, so you don’t have too, then stop by Tiff in the Morning Tuesday 9:20 for tips of the week.

The Art of Hospitality

In the center of Cincinnati is a creative hotel that redefines the meaning of hospitality and elevates the way you experience art and travel in the city. 21c Museum Hotel is a historic landmark that has been revitalized with delicate care and detail that translates an appreciation for the past. While contributing to contemporary perceptions and influencing more engagement with aesthetics. Along with showcasing and supporting art that inspires and enriches the future of creativity in the community. Whether you are visiting from somewhere or wanting to book yourself a stay-cay in the downtown area this hotel has everything you need to make your experience unique and memorable.

Photos by: Christen Collins

21c often partners with neighboring establishments like the Contemporary Art Center, which is located right next door and the Aronoff Theater from across the street. Making it the perfect destination to see a variety of shows, steps away from your room. They also host a vast variation of public and private events in multiple sections of the building, including on the roof that has one of the most spectacular views of the city. A short walk from the hotel is Fountain Square, The Banks, the Stadiums and the beautiful Riverfront, which offer endless places to explore during your stay. However, you don’t even need to leave the hotel to have an authentic experience of Cincinnati. The building itself has enough to discover with fascinating features from the outside, in.

As you approach the entrance take a moment to admire the architecture and the added elements that make the building one of a kind. The giant brace chandelier that hangs in front is not only breathtaking to see but it also becomes animated with audio from the front desk inside. Guests and staff ring the bell at the check in counter as people are passing the windows and under the piece, creating a fun aspect of interaction with the artwork and the people sharing the environment. While you’re welcomed at the front desk by the friendly and knowledgeable staff, take a closer look at what’s holding up the glass countertop. A sense of wonderment and amazement will instantly spark your imagination with what you’ll see!

Photos by: Christen Collins

The lobby leads you into the first level of the galleries and has a comfortable lounge area that you can relax into the design of the space with captivating art all around you. On this level you will find original mosaic tile floors that are impressive and gorgeous that go into their restaurant and bar, Metropole. The restaurant and bar have delicious food and craft cocktails served by the most delightful staff that take pride in working there. Make sure you stop in for a meal or drink, you might even get to sit at a table with the iconic penguins that parade around the property.

Photos by: Christen Collins

On the way to the restrooms is a digital floor that moves with you and adds a futuristic element that is neat to interact with. Walk up the spiral staircase to be enchanted by the other gallery spaces that are curated perfectly to highlight each piece of artwork. Their current exhibition is a must-see series of artwork in a range of mediums titled, Refuge: Needing, Seeking, Creating Shelter. There are diverse displays of photographs, drawings, prints, installations, sculptures, and ceramics with many types of techniques that really showcases a broad spectrum of what artists dedicate themselves to. The show features incredible artists from all over the world, including local artists sharing their personal experiences with immigration. Paired well with this show is the coming event Art and Social Justice: An Interactive Experience, presented by Black Art Speaks, happening on February 23rd from 5:30 – 8pm. The museum is open to the public all the way until 11pm and guests staying at the hotel have 24 access to enjoy at their leisure and anytime they’re feeling inspired. Another amazing aspect of this hotel is that they have an outdoor gallery space in their alley that has an incredible mural installation by Michael Coppage titled, BLACK BOX that promotes understanding, empathy, and acceptance in the community. One of the core values is uplifting the community with collaboration that supports artists of all backgrounds. Social practice is a big component of what they do when promoting positive messages. They really raise awareness with the chosen artwork that highlights the importance of an artist and the work they make.

Photos by: Christen Collins

The accommodations and amenities of the hotel are absolutely fantastic. The quality experience that is offered is one that will make you want to come back over and over again. Each room is designed with modern functionality that is sleek and comfortable. In the bathroom there is a surprisingly amusing characteristic that you’ll have to look closely to find and once you find it you’ll be happy you did! There are body part tiles that blend in seamlessly and have been made locally by Rookwood Pottery. During your stay take advantage of the many tremendous services they offer like their relaxing spa.

Visiting the 21c Hotel Museum is refreshing on so many levels and you’re guaranteed to have a special time no matter what the reason is for being there. They are actively bringing more art to the people with an immersive experience that you won’t get at any other hotel. Providing a new approach of appreciation for the arts with exceptional hospitality for all guests.

Bourbon Heritage Month

September is Bourbon Heritage Month and Cincinnati is ready to celebrate!

Bourbon is a type of whiskey, but not all whiskeys are bourbon. In order to be bourbon, it must contain at least 51% corn in its mash, it must be aged in new, charred-oak barrels, and it must be stored at no more than 125 proof and bottled at no less than 80 proof. Though bourbon can technically be made anywhere in the US, 95% of the world’s bourbon is produced in Kentucky, our neighbor just to the south.

It is for that reason that we have a lot of great bourbon bars, events, and even bourbon-inspired foods in our area. Below is a comprehensive list of all things bourbon to try during Bourbon Heritage Month and beyond.

The Great Brewery Roundup

August 5 is International Beer Day, so to celebrate the occasion, we are filling you up with all the local beer knowledge you need to get out and enjoy all of the wonderful brewery and beer options our great city has to offer.

The overall taproom experience includes the ambiance, food options, and other events and “amenities” (like having games and being kid or even dog friendly). The good thing? Cincinnati has an abundance of great craft breweries.

IGNITE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES NEW CONCEPT: A New Era Begins for Iconic Cincinnati Bar and Restaurant

Cincinnati, Ohio, Thursday, June 30th — Ignite Entertainment is thrilled to announce the opening of the former, longstanding In Between Tavern. In Between Tavern is an iconic Cincinnati bar and restaurant located directly across from Great American Ballpark. This fifteenth concept to launch under the Ignite Entertainment Community makes the company one of the largest locally owned and operated hospitality groups in Cincinnati.

Welcoming The In Between Tavern

The original In Between Tavern began serving the home team and visitors an unmatched game day experience in 1969. The bar was closed in 2016, and the building was sold to the most recent owners who opened Corner Bistro, operating through early 2021. In Between Tavern became a staple for game days from the beginning, and in the new era, owner Juan Imeroni has revived, yet carefully preserved this Cincinnati destination while putting the “Ignite touch” on the venue. The bar features roughly 4500 sq ft of indoor and outdoor space, a freshly updated, expansive outdoor space, opportunities for private events in an indoor area off the main bar, and a fun and unique Cincinnati-themed lunch and pre-game menu.

What’s New

In Between’s menu has been curated to showcase Cincinnati’s love for sports and affinity for pork and sausages. Offerings come from local butchers, including Avril Bleh, Wassler’s, and Redden’s, available as “Cincinnati-Style Dogs” and BallparkStyle Dogs,” aptly named for the city’s eclectic neighborhoods and favorite sports rivalries. The menu additionally offers Smash-Burgers, available as a single 4oz patty, or as a double, triple, or home run (four patties), available with any of the four styles of burgers. The menu is rounded out with additional sandwiches, a selection of salads, wraps, and appetizers, including Authentic Argentine Empanadas from sister business, Ché in Over-the-Rhine.

Bringing back to life an iconic destination like In Between is a dream” said owner, Juan Imeroni. “It’s everything I love about this city, in an amazing location, and we’ll serve the home team and visitors alike, just like they did here previously, for over fifty years. We’ve made some upgrades, and done some fine-tuning, but otherwise, we wanted to preserve all the Cincinnati sports history that was here before, add to to it, and make it a place for people to enjoy what’s on the walls and tables around them just as much as they enjoy the food and drinks.”

In addition to the revamped outdoor space, Imeroni is adding a retractable garage door opening in the main bar, bringing both the indoor and outdoor space together, with plans to extend the retractable door opening later this year. A dedicated private event space has been carved out in the annexed room that will be able to entertain groups of up to fifty guests, and comfortable lounge seating has been brought in to enjoy the games on the nearly twenty flat screen TVs.

Opening Date

In Between Tavern hosted a soft opening event on Saturday, June 25th, with Bengal Jim’s “Jungle to the Hall” event, rallying for select Bengals players to be enshrined in the Football Hall of Fame, in Canton, Ohio. The event was attended by over 200 Bengal’s fans, and featured past Bengal’s greats, with a themed scavenger hunt, door prizes, and music. Tickets for the event were sold out, and benefitted three local charities: the Ken Anderson Alliance, the Ken Riley Foundation, and the Cincinnati Music Accelerator.
