We are excited to start announcing events that are happening in Cincinnati for the spring and summer! Especially the ones that are outdoors and have a lot of different things for people of all ages to experience and enjoy!
One that we’re participating in and can’t wait to attend is “CampSITE Social Art: An Abstract Junction”. This Social Art Event is a grassroots opportunity for creatives to showcase what they do and connect with the community in meaningful and expressive ways! This one-day Creative Arts Festival will have live music, interactive art, a variety of vendors, activities for all ages, a kid’s craft area, live painting, local food, and so much more! The event is FREE with a suggested donation for support and will take place on Sunday, June 6, 5-9pm.
‘Abstract Junction” (@abstractjunction) is a collective relationship driven studio focused on unique projects and events rooted in thoughtful consumption, community growth and creative potential. Co-founder, Rachel “Rae” Miller (@raemillerarts) is from Cincinnati and is frequently here to see family and continues to work on new projects with artists and the larger Cincinnati community. Rae is inspired by taking time for self, through creative practice. Over the years her drawings expanded into hand stitching, screen printing and clever upcycling. Since finding strength in her personal practice, she has been able to grow works through collaborations with others. Along with a creative background, Rae brings to Abstract Junction a decade of work in systems change with social impact organizations. For this event she has teamed up with me, Christen Collins (@christencc), local creator, community arts educator, and blog writer for Everything Cincy in an effort to bring more creative experiences to the people of Cincinnati! Not only will Rae and I be there as co-coordinators, but we will also be there with our own artwork as featured vendors right in front of Rae’s permanent mural piece at CampSITE Sculpture Park (2866 Colerain Ave)!
The event will feature live music by local musicians, Juls Lawrence, Abby Vice, and Preston Bell Charles III. The performers will be playing in the center of the park on a geometric dome stage that has a perfect patch of grass right in front of it for folks to lay down a blanket to sit on and enjoy the show. So, bring a blanket or chairs!
Juls Lawrence has a passion for songwriting and is studying music education at Xavier University. She combines her history of classical music with her love of the blues. Abby Vice is a self-taught piano player with a passion for instrumental music, Vice creates ambient trip hop with bass-driven beats. Preston Bell Charles III participates and collaborates with positive cultural experiences to broaden and assist in enlightening those who are seeking the betterment of themselves and their communities. A teacher, performer, and passionate community member. Preston blends his loves into beautiful modern classical music. The music on the main stage ends at 9pm but they encourage people to bring instruments to the bonfire to jam out into the night.
The list of vendors are unique and diverse, offering a variety of different opportunities for everyone to engage in! Moxy Cincinnati, the Meal Kit Service Prepared with Local Ingredients by Local Chefs will be there as one of our food vendors along with Street Pops, gourmet ice pops made with fresh fruit. No artificial flavors or colors ever! The Community Education Department of the Art Academy of Cincinnati will be there with information about ways to get involved in art and will have a kid’s craft table with creative projects that children can partake in! Everything Cincy will even be there as your one stop shop to learn about what they offer and how they support local businesses! The event will also highlight local creatives with artwork such as, photography, ceramics, beautiful kaleidoscopes, and delightful tie-dyed items to name a few!
This event is a great opportunity for the entire family to come together with the community to experience artistic expression and have a lot of fun emerging themselves in a creative environment! The event welcomes everyone to join in on the collective consciousness of using our imaginations to cultivate beautiful connections of positivity.
We can’t wait to see you there!
